More than one hundred hours of voluntary support for Bolton Ironman 2016 has been rewarded with a charity cheque donation. Volunteers from the Rotary Clubs of Bolton, Bolton Daybreak, Bolton Lever, Bolton le Moors, Horwich, Turton, Westhoughton and Worsely, gave up their time to help organise Ironkids.
The clubs provided sixty seven unpaid members who were involved in the three day registration running up to the event, and on the day itself. As a reward for the dedicated commitment to the race, organisers of Ironman UK handed over a £1,000 cheque to the Rotarian team for a donation to a charity of their choice. Rotarian Roy Gibbons said: “We were privileged in being able to help the Ironman UK team in putting on this Ironkids world beating participation of 2,500 Bolton kids having a fun day.”
This year the hard-earned donation will be passed on to The Harmony Youth Project in Halliwell. The contribution will go towards providing courses towards improving employment prospects, and support workers of vulnerable teenagers and young adults.
